Retailers Singing The Shopping Blues. And You?

by shelbyaw on December 27, 2007

I Went to some stores today with my family. We wanted to see if there were any great buys. Besides the specific stores we needed to go to, I wanted to check out some bigger stores in the area for sales and traffic. We went to Ross Dress for Less, KMart, Wal-Mart, Target and swung by Kohls. I was totally shocked that there was no traffic. The day after Christmas and they were basically empty. I don't know what that means but I have a hunch it is not good. Hopefully it was just that everyone decided to boycot these huge stores that carry mostly merchandise from yes, you guessed it, China. It leaves a sick feeling in my stomach that the busiest was of course, Wal-mart. Probably 75% of their merchandise is from China and that means all those people that go there because they see Wal-mart ads with the all American family and the American flag. The truth is, Wal-mart is helping China's economy much more than America's. Maybe we should all start supporting small businesses that sell products made here? Is it worth a few cents more if you know it is probably helping an American working family? It is to me. It's not that easy I suppose when you have a large family and need those savings. As far as food though, Winco has much better prices. Anyway, I hope you had a good holiday and got what is really most important, time with family and friends. That's really what it's all about.
